Using the appropriate hair loss treatments is very important because nowadays there are limited hair care products being approved by the FDA. It means the health of the scalp and hair is put at stake when a person tries a new treatment that has not been approved by the FDA. Minodixil topical treatment is one of the treatments available to promote hair growth. It was initially used to treat patients with high blood pressure and able to reduce hypertensive of a patient. However, with regular use it was also noticed that patients who take minoxidil experience a side effect of massive hair growth. Due to this discovery, an experiment was done by applying minoxidil directly onto the scalp and it was noticed that it was able to promote new hair growth as well. Starting from that point onwards, minoxidil is used to treat hair loss problems but the concentration is advised to be limited to 2% only.
Spironolactone is one of the hair loss treatments coming in the form of drugs which is also used to treat high blood pressure, swelling, deficiency of potassium in the body and disorder of the hormones. It is also known as the water pill, and it belongs in the potassium-sparing diuretics group. It is a drug which has an anti-androgen factor and it works in two effective ways. First, it delays the creation of androgen in the body, particularly in the area of adrenal glands and ovaries. Then, it prevents any activity of androgen from binding into the receptor of androgenetic. The use of spironolactone has indirectly caused a side effect which is an excessive growth of new hair. Therefore, the use of this substance has been added into the effort of growing new hair and prevention of hair loss.
Cimetidine is one of the hair loss treatments available to the public, and it was primarily used to treat gastrointestinal ulcers. The nature of this medicine is that it prohibits the stomach from creating excessive acid, thus giving a lot of room for the stomach to cure the ulcer. It is known that cimetidine is also rich in anti-androgen elements, and able to prevent damage to the follicles of hair. However, cimetidine is advised to be used by women only, because there is a possibility that men will experience feminizing effects if they use cimetidine.
